Welcome To Human Genome Project
(Decoding Our Lives)
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was one of the great feats of exploration in history - an inward voyage of discovery rather than an outward exploration of the planet or the cosmos; an international research effort to sequence and map all of the genes - together known as the genome - of members of our species, Homo sapiens. Completed in April 2003, the HGP gave us the ability to, for the first time, to read nature's complete genetic blueprint for building a human being.[1]
The Human Genome Project, the multi-billiondollar international attempt to map the human genome, which was born of a powerful alliance between governments, private enterprise, and science, has been described as a Holy Grail or Rosetta Stone for deciphering the secrets of humanity and all biology that, until now, nature has adeptly guarded and kept just beyond science's grasp.[2]
The mapping of the Human Genome – the entire genetic code of three billion letters required to create a human being – has been hailed as the greatest intellectual achievement of mankind; more significant than splitting the atom or landing on the Moon. The deciphering of the human genetic code is considered by many to be the greatest scientific breakthrough of all time. As well as being known as ‘the book of life’, it has also been called ‘the handwriting of God’, or ‘the human instruction book previously known only to God’.[3]

Introduction -
The Human Genome Project (HGP) was an immense International enterprise: probably the biggest biological experiment yet attempted. Researchers worked together to read the entire sequence of the DNA letters (bases) in the human genome - more than 3,000,000,000 of them. Know more about the Human Genome Project..... Click Here >>>
Basics -
Without mankind's knowledge of genetics, it would have been impossible for us to attain the amount of knowledge we have today on the genome. This section will teach you everything you need to know about genetics to better understand the information on my website. To go to Basics..... Click Here >>>

History -
The 21st century has been called the "Biology Century" by people ranging in diversity from Bill Clinton to Bill Gates. The Human Genome Project was officially started in 1990 by the U.S. Government. It was planned as a 15 year project with a 3 billion dollar budget. In this section you will see a brief overview on the History of Genetics and then in the History of the Human Genome Project (HGP), you'll learn just what history the project made already..... How is it done??? -
The main aim of the Human Genome Project is the mapping of the entire human genome, i.e. the sequencing of the human genome. How is this process of genome sequencing done??? What all steps are involved in it??? To know about the method of sequencing the genome..... Click Here >>>

Ethics and Legalities -
With the new research being made into the human genome, new questions arise about the role of this new information in law and also how it affects mankind. To know about the ethical and legal implications of the HGP..... Click Here >>>

Applications -
So what has cracking the human genome done for the world of biology? There is no short answer to this question. This project has opened the door to lots of intense and interesting research. It has enabled the transformation of fragmented information into whole pictures of biological structures and shed light on biological functions. To know more about such applications of HGP.....
